Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy, who earlier had due doubts over his future with the team, last week agreed to new terms to his contract and so will stay with the Cowboys in the next season only. The move comes after Gundy and the university’s Board of Regents met on Friday to discuss the contract as the institution faced pressure to reduce coaches’ salaries.

Contract Rescheduling After Poor Performance

Their position cut back to the Ѕ\Suntimes, Gundy’s position came under fire after the team had a 3-9 season during that year. Instead, the coach launched some serious staff alterations by firing both he offensive and defensive coordinators after the team ended the regular season. Others said Gundy may have had to forfeit his position for refusing to enter into the new deal that was designed to reduce his compensation while limiting the university’s autonomy to certain aspects of the program. The strained negotiations produced a decision-making pressure in the management of the athletic department.

On Saturday, Pokes Report also disclosed that there was an agreement between the two. Among its terms are a cut in remuneration; the saved amount will go towards the school’s NIL and further athletic department resources. Nonetheless, Gundy will remain the head coach of Oklahoma State and his contract would have made him the winningest coach in school history.

During the past three presentations, each team member made several recommendations for changes to the Cowboys’ draft strategies for the current season, future seasons, and beyond.

This situation leaves many questions to how this program will evolve and how both sides will address conflicts if, god forbid, another poor season happens again. The year that lies ahead will be significant for Gundy in re-building the Cowboys to the competitive form that will see them challenging for the Big 12 crown. While the transfer portal hasn’t opened yet, more transfers and additional roster building will be important for determining the Hawkeyes in 2025.

Now with Gundy back to the sideline, there is now more than ever expected of this veteran coach and OSU football program to perform.
