Floyd Mayweather recently faced a tense encounter in London when a group of pro-Palestinian individuals confronted him over his support for Israel. The incident, which was captured on video, unfolded in the Hatton Garden area while the retired boxing champion was shopping.
Inside the store, a couple of men approached Mayweather, questioning his stance on Israel. In response, Mayweather reaffirmed his position, saying he was “proud to support the Jews.” This declaration reportedly angered the group, escalating the situation into a chaotic confrontation.
Mayweather Rushed to Safety Amid Hostility
Footage shows Mayweather being ushered out of the store and onto the street by his bodyguards, who were heavily outnumbered. As they attempted to get him to safety, the group grew more aggressive, with one individual even taking a swing at Mayweather. Fortunately, the punches missed, avoiding a potentially dangerous escalation. Throughout the ordeal, witnesses reported hearing racial slurs and anti-Israeli remarks directed at the boxer.
Mayweather has been a vocal supporter of Israel, particularly following the events of October 7th. Earlier this year, he demonstrated his solidarity by flying supplies to Tel Aviv using his private jet.
London Sees Rising Antisemitism
The altercation comes amidst a surge in antisemitic incidents in the United Kingdom. According to figures cited by the BBC, nearly 2,000 anti-Jewish hate crimes were reported between January and June of this year, with more than half occurring in London. These statistics, provided by a Jewish security organization, reflect a concerning trend.
Social media has further highlighted the hostile attitudes of some individuals involved in these incidents. The confrontation Mayweather faced serves as a stark reminder of the growing tension and intolerance in certain circles.
